Part Time Laboratory Technician (Science) - Franicis Barber Pupil Referral Unit

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

The Role

Hours negotiable up to 14 hours per week
39 weeks per year

Francis Barber works with groups of secondary aged pupils who have found it challenging in mainstream schools or who have moved into the borough and are awaiting a school place.

We were inspected by OFSTED in July 2013 and received a GOOD report. There were many outstanding features including “The effectiveness of care, guidance and support” and “the effectiveness of partnerships in promoting learning and well-being”. Francis Barber is a friendly place to work and there are a variety of lessons and activities taking place. These, along with good Keyworking, help young people make changes which enable them to be successful in their education.

We have two science labs, one on each of our two sites, at Franciscan Rd, Tooting and Westdean Close, in central Wandsworth. The successful applicant will work at both sites under the line management of the Science Subject Leader who is an experienced teacher. All pupils at the PRU have science lessons and most Year 11 pupils sit the GCSE science GCSE exam. The work of the lab technician will be varied and s/he will need to be flexible and able to work unsupervised at times. We would expect the lab technician’s hours to be spread over three days. This will be discussed at the interview.

Francis Barber is a great place to work with a friendly staff team and fantastic transport links and shops and banks nearby.  The school is very mindful of supporting staff wellbeing and there are many opportunities for CPD, mentoring and coaching. Other benefits include; access to Cyclescheme, a contribution towards the cost of eyecare, season ticket loans and access to our Employee Assistance Programme.

For an informal discussion please call Shaheeda Motiwala, Deputy Head of School on 020 8672 0771.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
