About Us
Merton, Wandsworth and Richmond have joined forces and a unique partnership known as the Regulatory Services Partnership (RSP) provide regulation and support across the 3 Councils. The RSP covers a diverse population and a variety of high profile and interesting venues, including Wimbledon Tennis, AFC Wimbledon, Twickenham Rugby, Battersea Power Station, New Covent Garden and Hampton Court Flower Show.
This opportunity will allow the successful candidates to forge a career in regulatory services within an innovative local authority partnership. Our 4 year paid apprenticeship programme offers bespoke training and work experience leading to qualification as an Environmental Health Practitioner or a Trading Standards Officer. You can cross-train with all regulatory functions in the RSP. These career paths are currently in short supply nationally and as such offers excellent employment prospects for the future
About the job
We are a looking for dedicated individual who will study for either the Environmental Health (Apprenticeship) course with Middlesex University or for the Level 6 Trading Standards Apprentice with the Credit Service Association. It will be a condition of any employment offer that you are accepted onto the study programme. Support will be provided to liaise with the learning provider for the application.
On days when you are not attending taught classes you will work in the team supporting all the regulatory functions from trading standards, food safety, housing, noise, pollution, licensing and health and safety. Building on the taught knowledge of the courses, you will develop the practical skills while learning from and supporting experienced professionals. From carrying out inspections and complaints investigations in business and home, to writing letters and attending court, this apprenticeship will provide you will a wide range of experiences.
As you progress through the course and gain experience in the role, you will have the opportunity move up through the career grades and you salary will increase.

With such a diverse pattern of work across the various environmental health and trading standards disciplines, you will and have an inquisitive mind, be highly motivated and organised, with excellent time management and communication skills.
To qualify for the apprenticeship you will need:
- · Grade 4 / C or above in English and Maths GCSE (or other level 2 equivalent)
- · 96 UCAS points (typically at grades CCC – A level or level 3 equivalent)
- · Minimum of one science or technology based subject at A level
