Teachers Pay scale plus SEN 1 or 2 allowance (up to £58,185 where qualified/experienced to UPS3 + SEN2 allowance level).
A TLR may also be available for a candidate with additional qualifications and experience who would like to lead on an aspect of school development.
1 post Full-time and 1 post Part-time (if P/T, days can be negotiated)

The Wandsworth Hospital and Home Tuition Service (HHTS) has an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of the Deaf to join our creative, supportive, and enthusiastic team of hospital schoolteachers across St George’s Hospital and Springfield Hospital. The role is primarily working with students from Corner House ward, England’s only highly specialist inpatient provision for Deaf children and young people who are experiencing significant challenges around their wellbeing and mental health.
The successful candidate will become part of our highly collaborative and supportive hospital teaching team, including other teachers of the Deaf and specialist BSL HLTA’s. There is a comprehensive training and induction package to support our new teachers in the role and further develop their professional expertise as specialists in deaf education, mental health and hospital education.
Corner House is a unique setting; it is a 7 bed ward and the only National CAMHS Deaf Inpatient Unit for children and young people aged 11-18, who are experiencing a mental health crisis in England. Corner House ward has been undergoing a period of structural change with a new team of clinicians and nurses relaunching a new model from April 2023. The re-opening offers an exciting opportunity for proactive and compassionate teachers, who will have the opportunity to develop new practices and partnerships within a multidisciplinary team.
We are looking for teachers who bring enthusiasm and innovation to the role and will enjoy working collaboratively as part of our wider team. The successful candidate will be play a key role in leading a service with excellent practice and high-quality outcomes for the CYP. Class sizes are small with high staff to student ratios. Nursing staff are also in attendance to lessons to ensure care and education go hand in hand. Teachers of the deaf work collaboratively with our subject specialists across the hospital setting to develop schemes of work for students. Teachers will also work with a range of clinical professionals to build an effective support models for the students during their admission and post-discharge. All our teachers and HLTA’s have the opportunity to teach across the hospital sectors.
About The School
HHTS is a Hospital School and Medical Pupil Referral Unit that provides education for a diverse range of students aged 5-18 who are experiencing a severe or chronic illness and/or have mental health issues.
HHTS encompasses St. George’s Hospital, CAMHS School at Springfield Hospital (incorporating Aquarius, Wisteria and Corner House wards), a range of Community Education programmes and Mental Health Outreach. Within Corner House ward, the National Deaf CAMHS inpatient unit, where we provide small group teaching to the Deaf learners in our care across the age ranges over two well designed classrooms.
The school was graded 'Outstanding' once again in the 2018/2019 inspection and is situated a short walking distance from Tooting Bec Underground station with excellent transport links.
